grades 4-6 competition

Park River Area held the annual school America's Battle of the Books (ABOB) competition
The competition took place on Friday, Feb. 9th, with teams in grades 2-3 and 4-6 battling it out in four rounds. The questions focused on "In which book" inquiries, requiring students to memorize titles and authors' names. Our team coaches, librarian Rochelle Kovarik and myself,  guided our students on planning and book discussions. A total of 50 student making up 11 teams, participated in this years battles.

ABOB benefits our students by allowing them to explore different genres and types of books, helping them broaden their reading preferences. To prepare for the competition, students read books from a prepared list and dived into a few books in-depth to enhance their comprehension and answer the competition questions effectively.

The competition not only promotes a fun learning environment but also encourages teamwork and productive discussions among team members, as they answer questions about the text together.

Our teams and coaches worked diligently since November to prepare for the competition, and their hard work paid off! Congratulations to the 1st and 2nd place teams from the grades 4-6 battle, who will be advancing to the regional Battle of the Books competition at Park River Area School on Feb. 15th at 9:30am.

I would like to express our sincere gratitude to the PRAS staff and prize donors for their invaluable support of the ABOB program. Most importantly, a huge congratulations to all the students who put in tremendous effort into ABOB this year.

Additionally, I wanted to share some highlights from the past week, including our students showcasing their knowledge and passion for reading in the ABOB competition.
